I thought kids only shot each other....

There are hunters who go a lifetime dreaming of that big kill. Then there's Simon Hughes, who helped nab a beast of an animal on an East Texas hunt while still in the first grade. The 5-year-old boy from Goodrich was part of a hunting crew that recently killed an 800-pound, 12-foot-6-inch alligator that has wildlife experts shaking their heads.

Mixed emotions on this one, I'm not sure I'd take a child anywhere near a gator that big.:no_ma:

I look at it differently, but I posted it to show that kids and guns can mix and not end up killing each other. Just takes a responsible adult to help em out.

They should turn that gator into a bespoke alligator suit for the boy, including matching hat, belt and shoes. :)

The reports are that the kid "killed" it with a 410 loaded with birdshot and the guide, Chuck Cotton, fired a "insurance" round as the gater was still moving and in fact had ripped the hook out of it's mouth. The kid may have shot the gator with the 410 but I have a feeling the guide killed it.

But that wouldn't have made the news.....

A .410 and birdshot? I'm no expert, but wouldn't that bounce right off the hide of an 800 lb gator?

A 410 slug would bounce off a big gator's skull...lol.

The gator, however, would have a serious Excedrin headache, I imagine.
